Type S Drywall Screws
Drywall Screws are a type of self-tapping screws, which means that there is no need to pre-drill holes. There are two common types of drywall screw, type "S" and type "W". Type "S" drywall screws are designed for attaching drywall onto metal. They have a sharp point that can easily penetrate the steel framing members surface. They are twinfast screws with two threads, so that they can be driven fast.
Drywall screws have a countersunk head with a flat top, externally spaced threads and a sharp or drilled tip. Designed for attaching drywall (also known as gypsum board, plasterboard, Sheetrock® and wallboard) to cold-formed steel and wood framing, they pierce or drill material without pilot holes and then form or cut mating threads during installation. Fewer screws are typically required than nails; electric screw guns reduce installation time; no incorrect nail indentations (indentations caused by hammers); drywall screws are also known as: Sheetrock screws.
Mild steel is standard material, surface hardened for Type S and Type W screws; Type G does not require surface hardening Gray or black phosphate, sometimes coated with a dry-touch oil compound, is the typical finish that provides minimal corrosion protection, but is usually sufficient to prevent rust from forming before the joint compound and water-based coatings dry.
